Recreation Services at CU Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Athletic Trainer position! This is a 10-month appointment, engaged annually from August 1st to May 31st with Jun and July off.
This role collaborates with the Head Athletic Trainer for Recreation Services on planning and implementing risk management strategies, fiscal oversight, developing policies and procedures, staff hiring, training, and development. This position also works independently with limited oversight, and communicates with appropriate internal and external partners, while providing program oversight to ensure compliance and operational success. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also assist the Head Athletic Trainer with the overall direction and management of the Recreation Injury Care Center (RICC) to provide first aid, injury prevention, injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, referrals, and assessment. Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, this position will be responsible for providing medical coverage for home sport club events, typically Friday-Sunday, and collaboration with CU Sports Medicine and Medical services to align resources to better serve students. Additionally, this role will supervise student staff and interns, and must be available for occasional Sport Club travel as team needs and budget allows. It is necessary for this position to be available for a variable work schedule that includes nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours depending upon needs of the Recreation Center.

Athletic Training Care:
On-site care of injuries and illnesses including prevention, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation.
Assess risk of injury, perform evaluation, self-care implementation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
Provide accommodation recommendations related to sport for student athletes, members and guests with restrictions or limitations.
Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies.
Provide concussion baseline assessment and screening for Sport Club athletes when requested and make referrals as needed.
Develop sports related educational programs for Sport Clubs upon request.
Order equipment and supplies to ensure RICC and first aid kits are fully stocked and ready for check out, conducting regular inventory and tracking supply usage.
Develop and deliver high-quality experiences for students and the greater University community.
Supportive assessment and management of area challenges. Uses university procedural knowledge as well as area expertise to address and resolve pertinent issues primarily independently. Communicates resolutions clearly with appropriate parties.
Staff Leadership:
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer to recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate student assistants and interns. This is done collaboratively with Student Affairs Human Resources.
Assist Head Athletic Trainer with scheduling additional certified athletic trainers as needed for Sport Club competitions and event coverage.
Risk Management:
Serves as department CPR/AED/First Aid instructor trainer and teach staff and community classes.
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in leading department emergency plan audits and assist the Senior Assistant Director of Facility Operations and Risk Management with risk assessment.
Ensure RICC’s treatment areas meet National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) standards. Document and manage all accident reports on a timely basis.
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer in performing monthly AED equipment audits and track the status using the AED Concierge online tracking system.
Administrative Duties:
Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings.
Participate in other departmental or divisional initiatives, programs, and committees as required.
Participate in the development of ideas and suggestions for Recreation Services and facility improvements.
Ensure that the Recreation Center’s facilities, equipment, and programs are meeting or exceeding the standards of the department quality by using and attending its offerings.
Assist with additional initiatives, assignments, and special projects as needed.
Coordinate and/or assist with special events and activities as necessary.
Engage in annual diversity and inclusion training.
Attend state, regional, and national conferences for professional growth and development.
Assist the administration with the compliance of OSHA standards and other pertinent topic areas related to public health.
Know, recognize, and follow the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the university and its employees, and the regulations of the sport club governing bodies, Health Insurance and Accountability Act, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field as required by NATA or equivalent combination of education and experience as a substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
One year of professional experience working as a certified Athletic Trainer.
Certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATABOC) Board Certification.
Athletic Training Licensure in state of Colorado, current and in good standing, or ability to obtain such within 30 days.
Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification with American Red Cross or ability to obtain such within 30 days.
Current CPR/AED/First Aid instructor trainer certification with American Red Cross or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Able to work a variable schedule to include nights, weekends and extended hours depending upon job necessity and possible holidays.
