POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Assistant Coach of Volleyball assists the Head Coach in all aspects of program development, including player skill instruction, team strategy, and fostering a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. This role is critical in preparing student-athletes for high-level collegiate competition while supporting their personal growth and academic success. Responsibilities include conducting effective practices, scouting and recruiting top talent, building relationships with prospects and coaches, and ensuring compliance with NCAA and RMAC regulations. Additionally, the Assistant Coach assists with program logistics, including travel coordination, equipment management, and alumni engagement, all while upholding the values and philosophy of the University’s athletic program.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Assist each team member in reaching their athletic potential, in a manner consistent with the Head Coach philosophy and expectations.
• Teach each team member proper techniques, strategies, and skills that foster growth, development of potential and opportunities to achieve success.
• Support the Head Coach in developing a strong sense of team within the Program, the Department and the University.
• Assist in organized and productive practice sessions.
• Prepare team members for high levels of collegiate competition.
• Support the academic and future occupational goals of each team member.

Additionally, the Assistant Coach assists with program logistics, including travel coordination, equipment management, and alumni engagement, all while upholding the values and philosophy of the University’s athletic program.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Assist each team member in reaching their athletic potential, in a manner consistent with the Head Coach philosophy and expectations.
• Teach each team member proper techniques, strategies, and skills that foster growth, development of potential and opportunities to achieve success.
• Support the Head Coach in developing a strong sense of team within the Program, the Department and the University.
• Assist in organized and productive practice sessions.
• Prepare team members for high levels of collegiate competition.
• Support the academic and future occupational goals of each team member.
• Model and foster appropriate sportsmanship, competitiveness, and humility.
• Maintain various databases and research data for scouting reports and recruiting.
• Identify outstanding prospective student-athletes for the University and program.
• Communicate and develop relationships with potential student-athletes, their parents, and coaches.
• Travel for recruiting, including planning the travel and creating a daily schedule.
• Develop relationships with high school/club coaches, teachers, alumni, and others that can aid in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
• Assist with travel arrangements, purchasing apparel, equipment, and other needs for the program.
• Ensure compliance with institutional, conference and national governing regulations.
• Must stay updated with NCAA and RMAC Conference regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

May be designated as essential personnel in cases of campus closure or emergency. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum Qualifications:  

• Bachelor’s Degree. 
• A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience. 
• Valid AED, CPR & First Aid certifications, or the ability to complete certifications once hired.
• Ability to work independently. 
• Ability to demonstrate volleyball skills.
• Effective motivational skills. 
• Strong organizational skills. 
• Strong interpersonal and public relation communication skills. 
• Ability to create a positive atmosphere conducive to learning. 
• Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with high standards and goals.
• Commitment to high professional and ethical standards. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Demonstrated record of coaching student athletes at the collegiate level. 
• Experience using VolleyMetrics, Hudl, ARI, and University Athlete. 

Additional Qualifications: 

• Periodic overnight travel required. 
• Regular travel throughout the year and/or at specified times of the year will be required.
• Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required.
• Ability to respond on-call as assigned, including evenings and weekends is required.
• Valid driver’s license and successful DMV check required.
• Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch required.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds required.
