Job Description:

Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Athletic Academic Advisor / Education Support Specialist II (T0003).

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Transcript Evaluation: Analyze and assess academic transcripts for current and transfer student-athletes to ensure compliance with academic requirements and eligibility standards.
• Faculty Collaboration: Work closely with faculty members to develop and implement tailored support plans for current and transfer student-athletes, addressing any academic challenges they may face.
• Transfer Student Support: Serve as the main point of contact for transfer student-athletes, providing personalized guidance and support throughout the transfer process, including academic planning and understanding transfer requirements.
• Academic Advising: Provide ongoing academic advising to current and transfer student-athletes, helping them to balance their academic and extracurricular commitments effectively.
• Compliance: Ensure all academic activities comply with institutional, conference, and NCAA compliance.
• Support Services Collaboration: Collaborate with campus departments, including admissions, financial aid, and academic units, to streamline processes and enhance support services for current and transfer student-athletes.
• Student Success Initiatives: Engage in long-term planning for improving academic advising processes, policies, assessment practices, and providing ongoing support and resources to help students adjust to campus life and achieve their educational goals.
• Monitor Academic Progress: Work closely with the coaching staff of each sport program to track academic success, monitor class participation/attendance, and eliminate barriers to successful progress toward degree completion.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Sports Management, or a related field.
• Experience in academic advising, preferably with student-athletes and/or transfer student-athletes.
• Strong understanding of NCAA Division 1 rules and regulations and transfer credit evaluation processes.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in supporting a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree preferred.
• Familiarity with transfer pathways, articulation agreements, and student success initiatives.
• Experience using student information systems and advising software.
• Knowledge of financial aid and scholarship opportunities for transfer student-athletes.
• Experience working with diverse student populations and an understanding of their unique needs and challenges.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time, temporary wage, non-exempt position in pay band 3. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
