Student and Campus Life (SCL) inspires transformation in all Cornell students on their journey of individual, academic and personal evolution. Our division is comprised of leading student affairs experts who support our campus on pressing student life matters including public service, health, wellness, social justice, residential living, food services, sports, recreation, career services, and student activities and organizations including sorority and fraternity life. We provide support and services to roughly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students on multiple campuses in the U.S. and abroad.

Athletics and Physical Education offers a diverse program of intercollegiate athletics competition, physical and outdoor education, recreational services, and intramural sports, plus wellness programs for faculty and staff and fitness centers for the entire Cornell community.

This Athletic Communications Interns will report to the Director of Athletic Communications and serves as the primary media contact for a handful of Cornell’s 37 varsity sports (sport assignments to be decided this summer). The position will be responsible for creative new media and social media outreach (Facebook, Twitter, etc.); creating and editing video content; writing releases after athletic contests for local, regional and hometown consumption as well as for the web site; media relations; updatingcornellbigred.com; other assignments include supervising student personnel; performing game day press box management for home athletic events; and maintaining player and sport records.

We will work with the selected interns on learning publication writing, designing, editing and production for departmental publications; providing support for TV, radio and web broadcasts; statistic compilation using various software applications, and supervision of student personnel.

This isinternship includesa monthly living allowance of $1,750 per month for 10 months and covers the time period from August 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025. No relocation expenses or Visa sponsorship are available for this internship.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field preferred.
  • Previous work experience in graphic design as an undergraduate, graduate, or intern preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of video editing and graphic design.
  • Proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Understanding of social media platforms.
