Position Summary

The Director of Compliance will manage the day-to-day operations of the Office of Compliance Services and will help ensure that Rice University Athletics Department’s 16 varsity sports are in compliance with NCAA, American Athletic Conference and institutional regulations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree

3 years of related experience including that gained as a student. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations

Experience navigating NCAA systems, such as LSDBi, RSRO and the Eligibility Center

Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail

Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Willingness to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and promote an inclusive work environment

Essential Functions

• Responsible for the internal operations of the assigned program – budget, travel, equipment procurement and inventory, and supervisory oversite of student managers and video coordinators
•  Responsible for the coordination of student-athlete recruiting including on campus visitations
•  Oversight of player development which including video and statistical analysis (analytics) for both player development and scouting purposes
•  Manages community relations program
•  Manages and cultivates interest in program through camps, donor relations, alumni, lettermen, and player parent communication
•  Manages all aspects of the budget
•  Ensures team travel is planned in a manner that complies with Rice fiscal policy, department missed class policy, and NCAA travel policy
•  Performs all other duties as assigned 

Additional Functions

• This position will be responsible for completing initial academic workups for the admissions office and serves as a liaison for the department through the admissions cycle. 
• The position serves as the institutional liaison to the NCAA Eligibility Center, overseeing all initial eligibility initiatives. In addition, the successful candidate will monitor activities in the areas of NCAA bylaws 11, 13, 16 and 17, including but not limited to, unofficial/official visits, practice logs, staff declarations and complimentary ticket requests. 
• This position will also manage the athletic department book program including educating book store staff and implementing policies and procedures. 
• This position will be responsible for processing requests for the Student Athlete Assistance Fund. 
• The position will assist in the submission of NCAA and conference violations, waivers and reports. 
• This position will work closely with the Sr. Associate Athletics Director/Compliance & Administration in the structure and oversight of the intern program. 
• Additional duties include providing rule interpretations and education for coaches and staff, coordinating department use of ARMS compliance software and providing game day support for various sporting events.

Preferences

• Master’s or law degree preferred
• Experience using student University systems
• Working knowledge of ARMS compliance software
