Position Summary:

Arkansas State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of First National Bank Arena. A-State is home to First National Bank Arena, a multi-purpose facility encompassing 192,000 square feet and has the versatility to host events ranging from small lectures to large conventions to even larger concerts, sporting events, academic events, and other activities. The arena seats approximately 10,000 individuals and is home to the Red Wolves, a Division I intercollegiate athletics program within the Sun Belt Conference

Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor Finance, Administration & Chief Operating Officer, the Director is responsible for all aspects of arena operations and floor management including entertainment and event booking, box office, arena scheduling, staffing, equipment and property. The Director will have a thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of event management; a proven record of booking musical and entertainment talent; and, strong marketing and promotion experience with similar type venues to facilitate fulfillment of A-State’s vision for First National Bank Arena to be recognized as a premier event center

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Direct booking of top musical and entertainment talent across a variety of venues
• Direct marketing initiatives for all events in First National Bank Arena, including, but not limited to, national shows, A-State Athletic Events and venue rentals as allowed
• Direct staff to provide exceptional customer service for each event
• Oversee financial management of arena by preparing a budget based on goals and monitor expenditures with financial records.
• Lead recruitment of all staff positions, including full time, part time and student employment
• Monitor industry trends and news that will have a local impact on the organization
• Coordinate with the A-State Athletics Department and Red Wolves Sport Properties for arena scheduling and assist to fulfill sponsorship marketing and promotional needs as appropriate
• Coordinate with A-State Athletics Department on game day planning and on-site logistics
• Coordinate event security and traffic flow with University Police and the Jonesboro Police Department
• Establish and maintain trust-based relationships with external stakeholders, donors, ticket holders and other industry influencers
• Conduct key constituent meetings and maintain a visible presence in the community
• Promote a facility reputation for outstanding customer service
• Develop a year-round facility maintenance plan, including discussion of long-term improvements and short-term maintenance, working with Facilities Management to define scope of work and cost estimates.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of event management

Proven record of booking top musical and entertainment talent

Strong marketing and promotion experience with similar type venues and a proven track record of growing business and enhancing customer experience

Excellent people management skills

General Days/Hours:

This position requires the flexibility to work various hours based upon need and may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Minimum Qualifications:

An earned Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in marketing, event management, management, or a related field

Senior-level arena or venue management, substantial marketing, or management job related education and/or experience may be substituted for education
