Job Summary
This position reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Facility Operations and manages daily operations, repair and maintenance, and improvement projects for Cliff Keen Arena, Weidenbach Hall, Hartwig Administration Building and the Stephen Ross Academic Center. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Facility Manager is responsible for ensuring the assigned facilities meet high standards for efficient operation, safety, maintenance, cleanliness, security, customer service and event execution. The Facility Manager supervises and coordinates work flow of assigned team members and oversees annual expense and revenue budgets. This position provides event and game management support requiring significant night and weekend work.
Responsibilities*
Manage the daily operations of assigned facilities, including safety, security, scheduling, setups, teardowns, cleanliness, repairs and maintenance, interior and exterior quality control and equipment operation.
Provide event and game management support and troubleshooting during scheduled events, including sports equipment, timing/scoring equipment, scoreboards/video boards, lighting,
plumbing, electrical, concessions equipment, competition surfaces, janitorial, HVAC, A/V equipment, broadcast television networks, DV Sport and other facility or event related components. This includes all home events for Volleyball, Wrestling, Men's Gymnastics, as well as other championships, rentals or special events.
Directly manage assigned team members, including two full time Athletic Facility Specialist positions, as well as temporary or seasonal employees. Organize and lead regular meetings to communicate plans, expectations and departmental updates. Provides regular feedback to the Associate Athletic Director for Facility Operations regarding the performance of all assigned team members.
Manage the scheduling and payroll approval of assigned employees, monitor productivity and assure adequate and efficient staffing levels at all times. Ensure conformation to all AFSCME Union contractual obligations.

Provide outstanding customer service, communicate updates and respond quickly to customer needs or requests. The position is expected to respond to facility related emergencies and issues when they occur, including nights and weekends.
Plan and direct facility setups and teardowns for daily use and scheduled events.
Inspect assigned facilities, grounds, equipment and related areas to ensure quality standards are met. Work with the Associate Athletic Director for Facility Operations, Assistant Director of Facility Operations, coaches and support staff to identify facility needs, diagnose problems, determine projects and implement corrective measures.
Manage all facility related expenditures, oversee budgets and identify cost-saving measures or opportunities for improvement. Identify and implement energy conservation measures where possible, and promote a culture of sustainability among building occupants.
Oversee cleaning and janitorial services of assigned facilities, including performance evaluation, scheduling, processing payments, supply and equipment inventory management, and event cleanups.
Coordinate with U-M F&O, UM-AEC, Athletic Maintenance, Sodexo (Athletics Concessionaire) and third-party contractors and vendors to complete routine preventative maintenance, corrective repair work and improvement projects.
Assist with the coordination of snow removal and grounds and parking lot maintenance in the State & Hoover Athletic Campus, including employee scheduling, equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies.
Oversee landscaping maintenance for assigned facilities, including mowing, trash removal, trees, plants and beautification projects.
Perform administrative activities, including the preparation of special reports, budget reconciliation, fiscal records, inventory and service charges.
Ensure safety is the highest priority and comply with all EHS, state and national safety standards and programs. Creates, implements and manages facility safety plans.
Assure compliance with University purchasing protocols, ADA codes, NCAA and Big Ten rules.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
Minimum of 3 years working in Facility Operations, Event Operations, Intercollegiate Athletics or equivalent experience.
Ability to work an irregular schedule, including nights and weekends.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage changing demands.
Ability to lead a team and outstanding interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with all team members and customers.
Desired Qualifications*
Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management, Kinesiology or related field
