Position Summary:

The General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing cleaning and maintenance of the interior facilities as well as outside facilities as needed related to athletic facilities. This position is also responsible for practice and competition preparation, maintenance and clean up for KAI events, special events and outside group events.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures.

2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures.

3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit.

4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values.

5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members.

6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;

7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

1. Performs daily interior facility maintenance of Kansas Athletics athletic facilities to ensure event readiness, including but not limited to, unscheduled repairs and preventative maintenance, basic hardware installations, light replacements, ceiling tile repair and replacement, basic plumbing repair and fixture replacement and move and repair furniture;
2. Performs daily event set up and teardown including but not limited to, athletic venues, offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms, team spaces, and lobby’s;
3. Performs daily cleaning and custodial work assignments, including but not limited to, offices, locker rooms, team rooms, sports medicine areas, weight rooms, equipment services, press box spaces/suites, and storage areas;
4. Monitors custodial/maintenance supplies and make requests to the Facilities Supervisor and/or Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities;
5. Repair and maintains interior equipment, spaces, fixtures, doors, and carpet;
6. Operates multiple types of equipment and machines, including but not limited to, fork lifts, aerial lifts, carpet cleaners, vacuums, floor scrubbers, reel cleaners, hand tools, and other related equipment such as blowers, mowers, trucks, golf carts, and gators;
7. Assists in event cleanup and maintenance and in the coordination of event cleanup groups;
8. Assists inside maintenance workers as needed for practice, competition or special event needs;
9. Assists in the setup and tear down for practices and events;
10. Performs other tasks as assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent;
• Ability to safely operate multiple types of machinery and equipment;
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and over an extended period of time;
• Ability to perform strenuous work in extreme hot and cold temperatures for prolonged periods of time;
• Ability to kneel, bend, squat, or twist for long periods of time;
• Valid state issued driver’s license;
• Ability and willingness to work an irregular and extended schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays related to scheduled events.

Preferred Qualifications:
• A minimum two years of experience in facilities maintenance work and/or custodial services in an athletics related area.

Base Annual Salary: $15.89 per hour ($33,000 yearly estimate plus overtime hours eligibility); Salaried Non-Exempt; Paid Monthly (12 pay periods).

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at KAI related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to:cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

Travel

Travel is not expected for this position.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the sports programs and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening and weekend work is sometimes required.
