The Head Cheerleading Coach and Spirit Coordinator will oversee the LSU Cheerleaders and Mascots and is responsible for supporting the mission and values of the Athletic Department and LSU Spirit program through the coordination of team logistics and promoting a positive team culture. The Head Cheerleading Coach and Spirit Coordinator will oversee all administrative aspects of the cheerleading and mascot programs, hold team members accountable to team guidelines, and mentor all team members in a safe atmosphere with adherence to all UCA & USA Cheer/AACCA National Safety standards.
25% Provide coaching instruction for LSU Cheerleading game-day/promotional/nationals routines while maintaining the integrity of LSU traditions; teach and evaluate proper progressions of skills adhering to all safety protocols; regularly evaluate performer readiness to perform skills safely; assess safety aspects of practice and game-day environment; communicate with Athletic Training Staff of injuries and illnesses; assess team strength and conditioning needs; communicate with strength and conditioning staff and supervise team lifts, if necessary.
25% Oversee the planning and organization of LSU Cheerleading & Team Mike programs; promote spirit squad activities on social media and LSU Athletics website; develop a consistently engaged feed; update profiles and webpages to reflect current team members and events; advertise tryout and recruiting opportunities to the public; assist with marketing needs including team promotions (e.g. photo/video shoots, halftime promotions, and community/sponsorship appearances).
20% Monitor budget with adherence to budget expenditures; collaborate with the Director of Spirit Operations to order necessary equipment, and attire; assist with fundraising opportunities to benefit the programs; maintain responsibility for budgeting and distribution of TAF Excellence funds; facilitate logistical communication and team activity calendar for spirit squad members through use of Teamworks database, to include all required student responsibilities; collaborate with the Director of Spirit Operations to have a finalized calendar for all events at the beginning of each month; develop methods to engage Cheerleading and Team Mike alumni.
10% Coordinate Varsity summer cheer camps; Collaborate with LSU campus dining, housing, parking, and facilities, acting as the liaison between the Varsity account manager and the appropriate departments of LSU, to host the summer camps; Adhere to safety and compliance protocols of LSU when assisting in the planning of each session; Provide support throughout camps by maintaining ability to assist each camp day and be present in the case of an emergency.
10% Create new opportunities for team members to develop academically and athletically to compete with other institutions in recruiting talent; conduct academic and athletic performance reviews for cheerleading and Team Mike members each semester and assist with setting achievable individual performance goals; distribute scholarships and team awards each semester; oversee and develop a tryout, recruitment, and selection process that is competitively successful with other SEC Spirit programs.
5% Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of a respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department.
5% Conduct program in compliance with NCAA, SEC, Athletics and University rules and regulations; Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with two years experience coaching a collegiate cheerleading program; Knowledge of USA Cheer and UDA Dance rules and regulations; CPR Certified; USA Cheer Safety Credential. LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply— a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
Four years experience directing a cheerleading program at the collegiate level; experience as a head coach and spirit coordinator at the collegiate level.
Special or Physical Qualifications
Ability to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Travel is required.
