McKendree University, Lebanon, Illinois, is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Head Women’s Water Polo Coach. McKendree University is a member of the NCAA and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Under the supervision of the Director of Athletics, this position will oversee all operations related to our Women’s Water Polo program. To be a head coach at McKendree University, individuals must display an ability to set and achieve short- and long-term team goals for the program. As a head coach within the athletic program, responsibilities include aligning practices with the professionalism and high moral standards that are expected of all McKendree University employees, while also achieving the following within their role.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for all aspects of recruiting quality students-athletes to McKendree University in compliance with the NCAA. This includes contacting recruits via telephone, mail or visits; evaluation; processing of recruiting paperwork; meeting with prospective student-athletes and parents; ensuring recruits are aware of school, NCAA, and conference policies; coordination with Admissions and Financial Aid personnel; and signing the recruit;
Coordinate/manage all practices and games ensuring physical safety of all team members;
Work with Athletic Trainers;
Analyzes strengths and weaknesses of student-athletes and develops skills to enhance their ability to effectively compete at the intercollegiate level;
Determine the playing skill of student-athletes and a define their role on the team;
Designs and provides a conditioning program that conforms to the most current techniques advocated and endorsed by the governing organizations, a strength and conditioning coach is available to lead in this effort;
Delegates responsibility to the assistant coaches, graduate assistants, or volunteers when applicable;
Develops, justifies, submits both a recruiting budget and an operating budget each fiscal year for uniforms, equipment, supplies, travel expenses, etc., to the Director of Athletics;

Develops, justifies, submits both a recruiting budget and an operating budget each fiscal year for uniforms, equipment, supplies, travel expenses, etc., to the Director of Athletics;
Develops, justifies and submits requests for capital expenditures as required;
Provides the equipment necessary to enhance skills development and participation in the sport;
Assist Equipment Manager in accountability and providing secure storage of same. He is certified;
Identifies, selects and purchases team uniforms which are in compliance with the established standards of the University, the NCAA, and conference policy;
Identifies and reports, through the Athletics Department, known deficiencies of McKendree facilities to McKendree operations and maintenance;
Develops the yearly intercollegiate schedule for the team in coordination with other collegiate teams;
Coordinates all places (home or away), dates and times for contests;
Ensures home matches are supported with equipment that meets the standards of the NCAA, conference, and other governing agencies of the sport;
Ensures officials are scheduled for all home contest following the guidelines set forth by the applicable governing conference agency;
Coordinate all travel aspects to support away games, to include, transportation, lodging, food, and cash advances. Submits travel expenses upon return, with a full accounting of expenditures;
Ensures the conduct of student-athletes exemplifies appropriate standards of the University, both at home and away matches and during all team travel activities;
Encourages an atmosphere of good sportsmanship among coaching staff and all student-athletes;
Operates the sport program within the operational and scholarship budgets assigned by the Director of Athletics;
Is a role model for all student-athletes by exemplifying appropriate behavior both on and off-campus;
Provide long-range plans and goals for the development of the sport program;
Meets with the sports administrator for season outlook and post-season evaluation;
Works with the Sports Information Director to produce statistics, records, news releases, etc;
Establish and maintains a Booster Club, if applicable, including any fund-raising efforts;
Obtains approval for all fund-raising efforts with the Development Office, the sport administrator, and the Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance;
Monitor the academic progress, financial aid packages and scholarship funding of student-athletes;
Promote the program in the community and among alumni. Develop working relationships with local High Schools and college coaches in the surrounding area;
Maintains professional and technical competency via professional development activities;
Functions under the general supervision of the sport administrator, receiving oral and written instructions when necessary;
Consults and coordinates with faculty, support staff and administration on matters pertaining to the development and execution of the sport;
Operates a sound and solid sport program in compliance with NCAA and conference rules and regulations;
Reports all NCAA/GLVC rules violation immediately to the Director of Athletics;
Fully adheres to all investigations or inquiries by being forth right and truthful in any NCAA, GLVC, or other governing conference agency as it relates to McKendree University;
Participates and passes the NCAA Coaches Certification Exam;
Maintains certification in CPR/AED;
Regularly attends all NCAA Rules Education Meetings on campus;
Attends all NCAA/GLVC or conference affiliation meetings when applicable;
Assists in the education of student-athletes on NCAA and conference rules and regulations; and
Works diligently with the Compliance Office on eligibility, financial aid, and all other compliance related issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree
A minimum of 3 years of coaching experience preferred
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS:
Knowledge of NCAA rules preferred
Knowledge of water polo at the collegiate level preferred
WORK HOURS/CONDITIONS:
Full-Time (40+ hours)
Some evenings and weekends
Travel is required
FLSA Category: Exempt
Salary Range: $45,00.00 - $65,000.00 / Annually
Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions and department budget.
