Job Description

The Membership Services Specialist position is a part of the Hokie Club which is the fundraising arm of the Virginia Tech Athletic Department. This position is responsible for properly evaluating gift documents for the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund reflecting the wishes of our athletic donors and according to the rules of the university, CASE guidelines, and IRS regulations. In addition, this position assists with keeping membership current and active within that drive year to ensure the donor has a correct rank at deadline. The candidate will work with the fundraising team doing entry level work. Prospect researching and developing relationships with donors and friends.

Other responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that donor records are stored in the Blackbaud.
- Ensuring that PAC databases are maintained in a complete and accurate manner.
- Managing the varied coding schemes as necessary to reflect the unique specifics of each gift so that accurate information is available to all authorized parties in the university and the VT Foundation.
- Respond to inquiries and requests from departmental, university, foundation, and donors as appropriate.
- Assist with running athletic reports to pull data to assist the gift manager.
- Assist with priority points for athletic membership.
- Basic understanding of concept and principles of fundraising.
- Collaboration with Associate Athletic Directors to build constructive and effective relationship with alumni and friends that will translate to long term support for athletics.
- Demonstrate experience in fundraising, sales/marketing, advertising, public relations, communication, or experience in cold calling.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience maintaining standards of confidentiality.
  
• Demonstrated experience of detail record keeping and reconciliation.
  
• Demonstrated proficiency with current office computer software such as electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheets and relational database applications.
  
• Demonstrated capacity to produce business correspondence, responses to request for information and input and other documents and electronic communications.
  
• Ability to professionally communicate both internally and externally with all levels of people.
  
• Willingness to solve customer (donor) issues and build confidence with them.
  
• Desire and ability to work collaboratively with team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
  
• Basic understanding of concepts and principals of fundraising.
  
• Experience working with data bases
  
• Proven success in building productive relationships with senior administrators, key business leaders, faculty, staff, boards, volunteers and donors.
