The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Finance will serve as the lead financial officer for the Virginia Tech Athletic department, overseeing all finance and business activities including strategic and long-range financial planning, budgeting, reporting, purchasing, and travel. This position will serve on the Director of Athletics’ leadership team, reporting directly to the Director of Athletics with a reporting line to the university’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities will include:
Work closely with the Director of Athletics and departmental leadership team to develop and implement the overall financial strategy for the Athletic Department.
Manage and oversee the departmental business staff, which currently includes a team of seven direct reports and their operational staff and maintain a culture of compliance.
Oversee the annual budget process for the Athletic Department including developing revenue/expense projections in collaboration with the University’s Office of Budget & Financial Planning.
Work collaboratively with university stakeholders to implement and maintain university policies, procedures, and business practices.
Review and approve purchase requisitions, travel expense vouchers, and procurement card charges for assigned sports and operational areas to ensure compliance with University, NCAA and Conference policies/procedures.
Oversee the monthly reconciliation process for Athletics. Ensure all accounts are reconciled and reported to the University.
Complete Audited Financial Statements; compile monthly financial statements; assist with open records requests as needed; review and process game contracts; assist with internal audits; coordinate procurement solicitations with the University Procurement Department, and contract review with the University’s Legal Counsel.
In collaboration with the Office of the University Controller, ensure the accuracy and timeliness of external reporting including the annual NCAA financial reporting activities.
Prepare financial reports and effectively present and communicate to the various groups.
Serve as the financial liaison to both internal and external constituencies including Athletic and University Operations staff, NCAA and the ACC.
