Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or related field and five or more years of related experience. Registered Dietitian (RD) certification and eligible for licensure in State of Kentucky. Ability to work evening and weekend hours and travel, if needed. Grade 9 (Salary).
Position Description:
The Senior Director of Sports Nutrition reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Health and Performance and oversees all aspects of the Sport Nutrition program. The Senior Director works collaboratively on the holistic student-athlete health and performance team, which includes Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Mental Health, Mental Performance and Sports Science to advance the development and delivery of nutrition strategies and methodologies for 23 sports. Additionally, the Senior Director will develop departmental infrastructure (i.e., nutrition policies, procedures, protocols, and best practices) for the efficient and effective operation of the program. The Senor Director works closely with other health and performance team to strategize and execute critical nutrition services.
Job Responsibilities:
Oversee all aspects of the Sport Nutrition program; Hire, develop and evaluate dieticians on the Sport Nutrition team.
Direct development of performance and clinical nutrition methodologies for all 23 sports including evidence-based assessment, education, and prescription plans and protocols.
Oversee and manage the Performance Nutrition department budget and all food and vendor trades. Including but not limited to all administrative tasks carried out in collaboration with Aramark such as menu planning and managing the budget for TACE, etc.
Partner with Aramark on developing menus, education materials, marketing materials for athletic only dining hall.
Athletic point person of all Thornton Dining events – any special event or meal must be evaluated for cost, labor, and benefit.
Manage delivery of clinical and performance nutrition services, including Thorntons Training Table and Gatorade Fueling Stations.
Manage Gatorade vendor relationships with Sports Medicine staff.
Oversee menu planning and nutrition education program.
Provide individualized assessment and counseling.
Oversee daily ordering of Fuel station, team, and nutrition related ordering.
Evaluate and document results of Sport Nutrition programming.
Lead dietitian for all eating disorder cases and supports medical care team including local eating disorder clinic.
Assist Director of Housing with athletic meal plans including developing meal plan options, addressing/supporting allergen waivers, education on athletic plans
Manage integration and collaboration with other leaders on the health and performance team and contribute to the Athlete Management System (AMS).
Assist CAF on major gift donations including trade for teams and developing relationships with campus partners.
Work with Athletic Business Office on specific budgets in relation to athletic teams spending funds at Thornton dining or third party affiliated vendors.
Lead on Kroger spending for department due to recent athletic department contracts.
Collaboration with all of Health and Performance directors to update and implement safety policies for student athlete population.
Serve as nutrition representative in L Care clinical meetings (monthly), leadership meetings (weekly), H+P leadership (weekly), supervisor trainings (monthly).
Build relationships with other universities to host Dietetic interns in their community rotations (6-8 weeks long rotations).
Assist all sport teams with recruiting student athletes (example – meeting with recruits, providing tours of dining area, etc.).
Assist Sports medicine with women health education and training (quarterly).
Speak at undergrad and graduate classes at local universities to promote UofL Sports Nutrition.
Management of social media accounts and UofL Nutrition website (uoflnutrition.com).
Partner with compliance to educate athletes and teams on drug testing and banned NCAA supplements.
Lead dietitian to work with facilities for hosting any NCAA events and nutrition supplements are needed for student athletes.
Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Health and Performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Nutrition or equivalent combination of education and work experience
CSSD: Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics
Previous experience managing a Sports nutrition budget.
Extensive prior experience in addressing eating disorders and disordered eating issues within the context of college athletes.
Demonstrated proficiency in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams focused on managing eating disorders.
Proficient use of Teamworks and/or Notemeal software for efficient nutrition management
Strong culinary background or education with a proven track record in overseeing/ or collaborating with athletic dining hall operations.
