This support area within Academic Services partners with all sports to support student-athletes in their personal leadership style discoveries and career development. Student-Athlete Leadership & Career Development programming efforts prepare student-athletes for interviews, graduate school application timelines, and career research through one-on-one meetings, team workshops, department wide programs, and more for the purpose of preparing student-athletes for life after sports.
Learning objectives for the Student-Athlete Leadership & Career Development Intern include, but are not limited to:
Develop skills in creating successful programming for student-athletes that demonstrates a progression from year to year with a particular emphasis on leadership development, professional development, community outreach, and character development
Develop skill in facilitating one-on-one meetings with student-athletes to create and review resumes, enhance LinkedIn accounts, discuss post-graduation plans, prepare graduate school applications, etc.
Learn and understand specific needs for each team by interacting with student-athletes and coaches
Develop skills in communication using social media to share programming information and creating marketing materials for various career workshops and other initiatives within the department
Gain ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programming efforts by generating detailed records of program participation and initiating follow-up communication with participants
Gain familiarity with student-athlete groups (e.g., SAAC, LIFE, SCORE, etc.)
Develop ability to effectively communicate the principles of student-athlete development program to a wide audience (e.g., prospects, coaches, staff, campus partners, etc.).
Observe academic advising appointments to understand monitoring, tracking, and support system
