Description

The Methodist University Athletic Department is inviting applications for the position of Associate Head Athletic Trainer. This is a full time 12-month staff position. The approximate start date for this position will be August 1, 2025.

The Associate Head Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Director of Athletic Training Services/Head Athletic Trainer and is independently responsible for the day-to-day sports medicine/athletic training operations of one or more of the Methodist University’s twenty varsity NCAA Division III athletic teams. The Associate Head Athletic Trainer will also assist with the daily operation and administrative duties of the Athletic Training Department. As well as assist with the leadership of the athletic training department and the mentoring of Assistant Athletic Trainers. Normal duties include but are not limited to:

The Associate Head Athletic Trainer will report directly to the Director of Athletic Training Services/Head Athletic Trainer and is independently responsible for the day-to-day sports medicine/athletic training operations of one or more of the Methodist University’s twenty varsity NCAA Division III athletic teams. The Associate Head Athletic Trainer will also assist with the daily operation and administrative duties of the Athletic Training Department. As well as assist with the leadership of the athletic training department and the mentoring of Assistant Athletic Trainers. Normal duties include but are not limited to:

• Independently oversee all sports medicine operations for assigned teams
• Prevention, Evaluation, Treatment and Rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries and illnesses within the University’s comprehensive sports medicine program
• Maintain accurate, complete and precise documentation
• Completing required insurance claims
• Daily interaction and communication with coaching staff
• Work closely with/have good work working relationship team orthopedic practice/team physicians
• Schedule and coordinate medical appointments
• Maintain communication with Student Health Services for non-orthopedic illnesses
• Advocate and provide resources for nutritional and mental health
• Implement Methodist policies
• Attending designated team practices/events
• Travel/Coverage of away events; pending sport assignment
• Maintenance/Upkeep of Athletic Training equipment and facilities

Administrative Duties include but not limited to:

• Assisting with full-time & part-time staff management, leadership and mentoring
• Scheduling
• Yearly updating of Emergency Action Plans; Policy & Procedures

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree from a CAATE accredited program
• Prior experience as an athletic trainer required, four years of full-time experience preferred
• Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
• North Carolina State Athletic Trainer License or eligible
• BLS CPR Certification
