Position Summary:

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of maintenance staff and directing work of employees for basic maintenance, repair and upkeep of Allen Fieldhouse, Parrott, Wagnon, and Horejsi facilities. This position is also responsible for coordinating, execution and inspection of routine and special maintenance projects in Allen Fieldhouse, Parrott, Wagnon and Horejsi. Responsible for preparation of Allen Fieldhouse, Horejsi, Hoglund, Parrott, and Wagnon for practices, competitions, and KAI hosted special events. Furthermore, this position will collaborate with Facilities/Events Office staff and other University personnel to ensure the optimum and safe use of athletic facilities.

1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics, and NCAA policies and procedures;
2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules, and procedures;
3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit;
4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members;
6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road;
7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

1. Organizes, directs, and controls daily operations of various facility maintenance activities and projects, including the coordination, execution, and inspection of routine and special maintenance projects as directed by the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities;
2. Oversee the building operations, day-to-day readiness, and set up of Allen Fieldhouse, Parrott, Wagnon, and Horejsi facilities. This includes establishing employee work schedules and assignments, and procure materials;
3. Process work orders and perform basic maintenance functions (plumbing, electrical, mechanical) and repairs within Allen Fieldhouse, Parrott, Wagnon, and Horejsi. This includes the Daily use of maintenance equipment (i.e., trucks, forklifts, lifts, sweepers, scrubbers, carpet extractors, blowers, carpentry tools, hand tools, etc.);
4. Oversee maintenance staff during set up, tear down, and clean up for all activities, team practices, and competitions. This includes coordinating daily work activities and/or projects of maintenance staff;
5. Maintain records and documentation on event set-ups, tear downs, and preparations when it comes to work progress and results;
6. Maintain an excellent working relationship with internal campus and external trade partners to best achieve smooth maintenance operations of Athletics Facilities. Establish guidelines and procedures as needed to manage staffing, campus partners, contracted groups, work scheduling, departmental expectations, and other maintenance issues or general feedback;
7. Interview and hire perspective 3RD party groups, temporary employees, and independent contractors to perform work within Athletic Department facilities for post-event building clean ups;
8. Manage third party contractors and vendors working on projects within the athletic facilities assigned;
9. Schedule, supervise, train, and inspect campus groups and community organizations’ work and authorize payment of groups upon satisfaction of job completed;
10. Schedule training for maintenance staff to obtain the most current information on products, equipment, and techniques in their area of responsibility;
11. Interact with custodial and grounds staff members to collaborate and communicate work tasks for project purposes, goals, and establish standards to ensure smooth gameday operations;
12. Attend meetings with other departmental staff to address specific needs for present or future events, maintenance issues, and to coordinate efforts;
13. Evaluate and recommend maintenance needs for future expansion or renovations to Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities to include staffing, supplies, equipment, and contracted services;
14. Recommend budget impact items for supplies, equipment, and contracted services for maintenance programs;
15. Collaborate with Assistant –Athletic Director of Facilities on developing processes and policies, and with forecasting maintenance activities around sports schedules and seasons;
16. Oversee and assist maintenance staff with inter office moves, and office make-readies for incoming staff, as it relates to basic maintenance repairs (e.g., minor carpentry, dry-wall repair, carpet replacement etc.), equipment and furniture as needed;
17. Perform any duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or their designee;

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in relevant facility maintenance to include knowledge of standard practices in building trades, plumbing, and electrical;
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of chemicals, solvents, and other cleaning agent materials and safety standards;
• Previous leadership experience at the supervisory or managerial level;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with staff, external community groups, and vendors as a collective team member;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively under multiple, strict deadlines in a fast-paced office environment with the capacity to adapt quickly to major and minor changes in projects and outcomes;
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and solutions focused approach to challenges and improvements;
• Demonstrated ability to utilize good judgement in the interpretation and application of policies, procedures, and safety requirements as to exercise independent discretion;
• Ability and willingness to work home sporting events, and occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed during peak sport seasons;

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
• Previous intercollegiate or professional athletic experience in building or facility maintenance.

Annual Base Salary: $60,000; FLSA exempt

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at Kansas Athletics related events, including inclement weather. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to:cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

Limited local travel is expected for this position.

Hours of Work

This is a full-time, exempt, benefits eligible position.Days and hours of work will vary based on the needs of the sports programs and as job duties demand. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is sometimes required.
